Samaresh Majumdar-Born on 10th March 1944, wrote his first novel “Dour” which was published in 1976. Being a prolific writer who has excelled in different genres, Samares Mazumdar has worked upon short stories, novels, travelogues and children’s fiction. He has written more than sixty novels and over one hundred fifty short stories. Samares Mazumdar received the Sahitya Akademi Award for Kalbela, in the year 1984, which was later made into a film. He also won the Bankim Puroshkar in 2009 and the IIMS award in 2012 for Kolikatay Nobokumar. He spent most of his early years in the tea gardens in Duars and then completed his bachelors degree and Masters from Kolkata. From the tea gardens of the Duars to the core of the concrete jungle of the city life, his characters and stories have diverse shades and depth and has won a special place in the hearts of the readers
